Ignite Spark Burn

Posted in Uncategorized on June 24, 2008 by theskza

From the Department of Words Found at Work Department:

Pyrophoric: Materials relating to and with propensity for spontaneous ignition in air; literarly “Fire Bearing” Are you going to Burning Man? from the greek comb. form meaning “fire,” from Gk. pyro-, combining form of pyr (gen. pyros) “fire”; with phoric; euphoria + pherein “to carry”.

See MSDS Glossary:

A pyrophoric material can spontaneously ignite in air. Many pyrophoric materials are also water reactive, reacting vigorously with water or high humidity, often igniting upon contact.

See The Prodigy.  Materials waiting. Waiting. Suddenly. Suddenly. Waiting. Without Warning.  Combustion. Combustion. Combustion. Explode. What happens when a Firestarter goes inert?

When we started that magnesium company?

It was just after the war. We were in it for kicks. We were in it for science.

We saw an opportunity and we went for it. Little did we know that our one tiny shop would grow into an empire, a multinational consulting firm providing magnesium solutions for a global market. Applications and alloys that brought new life to the mineral, staying one step ahead of shifts in the economy, while providing a superior product range from burn to glow.

That’s why FernCo Magnesium stands proudly, as it did a thousand years ago, breath ragged and raw, beards glazed with ice, hands heavy on our spears, in the steam and the gush from the guts of a woolly mammoth brought down in the dying rays of the sun on the edge of a glacier’s peak.
